Alyson Evans
Chair

Alyson Evans is a performer, theatre maker and community artist with a particular focus on cultural development and social change. Based in Darwin, Alyson has made theatre with remote Indigenous communities, young people, people with disabilities, adults within the justice system, and people from refugee backgrounds, as well as in Cambodia, Nepal and Europe. In 2015 Alyson received the Australia Council for the Arts Kirk Robson Award, which recognises outstanding leadership from artists working in the CACD sector. Having come to Australia to work with Darwin Community Arts 12 years ago, Alyson is really excited to join the board and give back to such a great organisation.

Dick has worked on DCA’s digital arts program for over 10 years.


Sean Pardy
Honorary Treasurer

Sean is a theatre maker and arts administrator with over 25 years’ experience in the sector across a variety of roles. Sean’s practice is driven by a desire to see more artists in the world. He is passionate about nurturing creative communities and developing opportunities for independent artists. He approaches his work with calmness, compassion and humour.


Anna Weekes
Ex-officio Board Member as DCA’s Executive Officer

Anna Weekes has a Community Arts and Cultural Development background, working both in Australia and internationally on community-directed arts projects for social justice. Anna has previously worked in Cambodia for 18 months with a local art and social wellbeing NGO, and in Vanuatu working with a group of women to nurture and support their ideas on women’s community development projects.

Tarzan JungleQueen (McDonald)
DCA staff representative

Tarzan has been a part of the DCA family for over 9 years, their current roles are Marketing & Promotions Darwin Community ArtsVenue Manager of UNTiTLED gallery+studio, and Creative Producer of UNTiTLED gallery+studio.

A multi-disciplinary, Trans + genderqueer artist, Tarzan uses graphic design, photography, collage, screen print and film as their main mediums. Their work has been exhibited locally, interstate, and internationally (Colombia, Jogjakarta and France), and their practice has been featured in various publications. 

Tarzan runs their own Graphic Design and Screen Print business Tarzan Design Jungles. They are currently also employed by Artback as the Traveling Artist in residence – running screenprint workshops in remote communities around the Northern Territory.


Rebecca Hell
Member and Inclusion Advisor

Rebecca is one of the inclusion advisors for Inclusion Australia Northern Territory (IANT) she works with people, families and advocacy organisations in the NT to make sure they are effectively represented in Inclusion Australia’s national advocacy.

Rebecca also performs regularly with the cemeNTstars theatre project at Darwin Community Arts and as a deaf signing performer at various events.

Rachael Chisholm
Member

Rachael Chisholm is a First Nations actor, playwright and broadcaster from Darwin. Since graduating from the National Institute of Dramatic Arts, she has worked mostly in broadcasting as a presenter, voiceover artist and editor.


Genevive Grieves
Member

Genevieve Grieves is a proud Worimi woman and respected artist, educator, field builder, film director and oral historian. She is recognised as a leader of community engagement and decolonising methodologies in Australia.

As the Co-Creator and Creative Director of storytelling agency, GARUWA, Genevieve champions projects that place First Nations knowledge and culture at the core. Central to her practice is intercultural and intergenerational knowledge transmission, developing initiatives like the First Nations Impact Lab, presented in collaboration with Doc Society.

Genevieve is committed to sharing stories for positive social change, creating award-winning film and museum experiences including the “First Peoples” exhibition for Melbourne Museum and “Lani’s Story” for SBS. She is the co-founder of Shifting Ground, supporting organisations and individuals to be empowered to think, talk and act on issues of culture and race through workshops and training.

Genevieve serves on the boards of Darwin Community Arts, democrating artistic practice for a fairer and habitable world and Original Power, building the power of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples to protect Country. Her forthcoming publication “Art & Memorialisation: Truth-telling through creative practice in settler colonial Australia”, co-edited with Amy Spiers, will be published in late 2024


Marie Munkara

Marie Munkara is a Darwin-based writer of Rembarranga and Tiwi descent. She’s the author of five books, including the novel, Every Secret Thing (UQP 2009, Magabala Books 2021), which won the David Unaipon Award in 2008 and the Northern Territory Book of the Year in 2010; 

A Most Peculiar Act (Magabala Books 2014); a memoir, Of Ashes and Rivers that Run to the Sea (Penguin Vintage 2016) and two children’s books, Rusty Brown and Rusty and Jojo. 


Yagan Satour
Member

Yagan Michael David Satour is an Arrente, Gurindji and Worimi, queer man living with a disability.  He has an excellent memory and can remember things most people forget – like numbers, birthdays, and events.  He loves history and has deeply researched the English monarchy and ancient civilizations including Egypt, Greece and Rome.  He also loves science fiction.  He was previously a drag queen (9 years ago) called Star Aqua Galactica.  They made a show called past racism/future rights which was performed at Darwin, Adelaide, Melbourne, Alice Springs and Tennant Creek (until Star Aqua was killed by an asteroid).  She may come back to life.
